I do a lot of photo shoots with my friends as the models. (I have beautiful friends) One of my favorite places to do my photo shoots are in a cemetery. I have done many before in a cemetery and have had no problem with it. Everything usually goes quite smoothly and we have a lot of fun. So I decided to try out the cemetery in the town that I'm moving to in a few months. It was very beautiful there but very populated. Yes, populated. Populated with live people. I had to wait a lot so that I wouldn’t get them into the shot. I was just about to pack up and call it good, I was loosing my good light, when a college campus cop parked in front of our cars. (The city cemetery was on campus; don’t ask why cuz I don’t know either) He informed us that someone called about suspicious behavior, that there were four girls in dresses at the cemetery. We told him we will leave right then after he lectured us. The campus cop said he felt ok to let us go but he had to wait for the city police. OMG!!! Who would call in for help against four girls in skirts!?! Did we really look that fierce? While we waited for the other cop, he made a statement that still bugs me. He asked why we were taking pictures there, I tried to tell him it was art, he still didn’t understand when he said: “Who would want pictures of a cemetery anyway. That would be one interesting audience.” Oh! It took a lot not to lecture him!
It still bothered me that the locals there were treating the place like a park; jogging through, bring their kids to ride bikes, walking their dogs, etc. Out of everything going on, what we did was considered suspicious and disrespectful. If not anything else I was preserving and creating beauty. Erg! I guarantee that if we were wearing caprees with pastel colored tee shirts nothing would have happened. …so that’s basically it. The whole story. I was just very irritated with the whole even. I’ll post the pictures I took as soon as I have access to a scanner.
